Roger is the second of the two characters of the story "Thank You Ma'am". He is a boy, lean and feeble of fourteen or fifteen. His attempt to snatch the big purse of the large woman Mrs. Jones starts the story. He remains all through the story that ends with his thanks to the large lady.

Roger, the young boy, definitely attempts to do a crime but he is not a regular criminal. He is a victim of circumstances. He fails in his wrong effort and suffers humiliation. He seems tempted by his desire to possess a pair of blue suede shoes.
